This doesn't qualify for the spring challenge this year.
Decades ago Walthers marketed (in their Tongue-in-Cheek line) a "Beer Can Tank Car" (you supply the can). Around that time, I scrounged a genuine CP Rail drinking water can (Lethbridge Viaduct, in a caboose, during the NMRA convention). Later I picked up the Walthers kit at a show. Now I've dug it out for use.

I went into Lowes this even to look into getting a new shelving system for my N scale Layout im going to be building. I do not want to use BIG heavy duty brackets for this layout, i want something that looks nicer and does not leave large 1/4" holes in the walls LOL

I remember seeing a nice shelving system on someones layout, but I do not member which forum it was on. They had small skinny bars that ran up the wall and they could position brackets anywhere up the wall for different shelf heights, and they also used it for their around the room shelf layout. I want to do this as well, but I could not find what I was looking for. They had something similar, but the support brackets were meant for the metal shelving often used in closets, and had no way to secure a piece of wood to them....

Do any of you guys use something like this? If so, where did you guys get them from. I think i remember them saying they ordered them online, but i didnt save the page and now im kicking myself lol

I was in Chapters / Indigo this afternoon looking for a book by one of my favorite author/professor when I happened upon a beaut of a deal. There it was, this large coffee table sized book in the "Canadiana" section called "Posters of the Canadian Pacific" authors, Marc H. Choko & David L. Jones.

Its a beautiful book filled mainly with colored posters and advertisements used by Canadian Pacific from their beginnings, right up and through the era when they had airplanes and ocean liners. There is even an odd misprint which I initially thought was why they were giving the book away until I read the fine print.

I know Walthers makes the transfer table in HO scale, but does anyone make a transfer table in N scale? Gus put a thought into my head that is making me want to include one into the end of my N scale stub ended yard to serve as a run-around or a way for locomotives to escape the end of the tracks.... He suggested the use of a turntable, but a turntable just seems to out of date for the modern era which I model. I REALLY like the idea, and would like to put a transfer table in, but from the quick search I have just done I have come up empty

Any help would be appreciated

The conveyor is now complete and working.

The conveyor was constructed in brass, with rollers to drive the belt turned on the lathe. The belt is a spare part for an electric wood plane. The motor is a spare one from a Roco locomotive, driving steel/brass gears on a layshaft which drives the belt roller through plastic spur gears. Adjusting screws are fitted to keep optimum belt tension.





Below is the brass receiving hopper to channel the stone from belt into wagons. The conveyor unit just rests in grooves above the hopper. The electrical connection is by plug/socket so the unit can be easily removed for maintenance.





A hopper made in plastic sheet sits in the belt unit to feed stone onto the belt.

That I need to wear a protective mask every time I do work on my layout.

I don't know. Something has changed, before, for as long as I could remember, I could do sanding, painting, etc... and no problem. However, recently, I found that if I didn't wear one... I didn't feel so good after wards. I have found out that after years of being allergy free, I have developed heredity allergies that everyone else in my family has, mainly dust & pollen allergies.

I know this all sounds painfully awfully obvious, but the last couple of nights, I have put a mask on while doing, well, mainly everything on my layout. It's really been hard, because, I was staying away from working on the layout until I could get checked out. My doc, who knows myself and my family history, basically told me I needed to change my habits, mask etc... It didn't help that with the winter months I've had the windows shut tight to keep the cold out.

So yeah... just felt like I needed to share this. Otherwise, working with the mask on, opening the WINDOWS... I can get stuff done without feeling like a bag of hammers after about an hour or so.

I decided I wanted to build a model of the Erie RR Harlem Station float terminal – one of the smallest yards in the Bronx.. I needed it to fit into the back of my “compact” car, so it has had to be adjusted slightly from the prototype. It is being built as an entry for the 2010 challenge on RMweb forum. It is HO, and the actual baseboard is a lop-sided rectangle measuring 46” x 28” at rhe narrow end and 37” at the widest. This has been in my head since last autumn, since the weathr , here in the Highlands of Scotland this winter, has been much too cold to be outside building baseboards. The original yard was tucked in the corner of E149th Street and the Major Deegan Expressway
