Was browsing around ebay and found what looks to be a good deal. Right now, the bid is only around $20. Looks like a nice lot of 9 HO scale boxcars. Some have truss rods underneath. Metal wheelsets. If I was modeling the proper era, I'd give these a real close look.

And, this is not my listing, nor the listing of anyone I know. Just looks like a good deal. Of course, the bid price could go up in the next few days.

This is one of my favourite locations in Slovenia. The Ljubljana-Maribor (and on to Austria) main line passes through, and the non-electrified line to Ptuj, Hodos and Hungary departs. Added interest as trains to and from the Ptuj line change to and from electric to diesel traction.

Green......ecologically speaking, a simple observation:

I was out partying last night, got home around 1:30 AM.
My trip home, on a major street, took me through approximately twenty traffic control devices (lights).
I didn't count them, but I had to stop for better than 60% of them.
So. The light turns red as I approach, I stop, I sit for at least 1 minute if not more, while absolutely no traffic crosses through the intersection. Finally, the light turns green for me and I proceed to the next light where the same thing happens.
I, therefore spent approximately fifteen minutes(lights), stopped, engine idling, going nowhere, burning fossil fuel and creating carbon dioxide to "warm the globe", plus the extra gasoline needed to accelerate from the stop to the posted limit ( X15).

Why?? you ask?

Because: At that time of night all traffic control devices are operating on a fixed time cycle, and driving through a red light is a moving violation. "Homo Stupidicus" strikes again.

The "observation": If sensors were installed in the roads to detect where traffic was moving, the lights could have operated in an "access demand mode", and few if any vehicles would "have" to stop, or even slow down. Just think, for a moment, how many millions of gallons of gasoline a year, could be saved in "off peak" traffic hours, if you only had to stop if there was crossing traffic. How many less tons of CO2 would not be uselessly produced.
If two vehicles were approaching a light controlled intersection, the sensors could allow, at least the closest vehicle to proceed, and drastically shorten the wait for the other.
I guess writing traffic light violation tickets (no I didn't get one, but the local PD rep's were out in force) is more important than reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and "protecting the environment". As I said, Homo Stupidicus strikes again.

While looking at my Awstats page on my 55n3 website, I found this on a forum:

"The irony is that now he has the correct track gauge,
but everything else becomes far less accurate because you have to tweak 1/48 and 1/87 models to fit the new scale..

so instead of having very accurate models in 1/48 scale with the wrong gauge,
you now have much less accurate models in 1/55 scale with the correct gauge.."

No, 55n3, uses oversize and undersized components from other scales that measure correctly to Scale55. Just because an object is labeled "HO" doesn't mean it scales to HO. Example:



The Lifelike "HO" stock pen, it is too large for HO and S. It scales right in Scale55.

That is the advantage of 55n3 there are so many things available that are cheap and readily available. Just because it is label a "scale" doesn't mean that it measures out to that "scale".

On Friday I chased Indiana & Ohio 400 from Hamler to Leipsic. After breaking off the chase I also nabbed a couple Norfolk Southern moves around Leipsic. Here's what I found:

Besides all the other drama in my life right now, I have been working on something when i dont find myself thinking about what Im having to go through. I've yet to actually run a train in the past 5 years ive been in this hobby, ive never had power in any of the tracks I have laid, and its time to put that to an end and get some trains moving! I tried building an around the walls shelf layout in HO scale a little while back, but it just was not working, a 10'x12' room just wasnt working, especially since I was having to live in the same room as the layout.... I just was not happy with how the layout was turning out, and i didnt like the fact that I could only run a short train on the mainline and couldnt have a decent sized operational yard. Well this time around it will not be any different, except that this layout will be in N scale and take up only half of the room and at eye level to give it some depth and make things appear more realistic.

This Layout will have a small/medium sized yard, complete loop for continuous running as well as lots of switching for some fun, 17-1/2" minimum radius with #7 minimum turnouts. The mainline is shown in red, and I will go from there...
