I have settled on a plan for my new N scale layout having searched the net for a long time for a good intermodal plan for use in the future & have come back to Kingman a layout which was built to portray area 41 ..... my intermodal theme will be based on it using the main three outer tracks with some adaptation in the centre depending on how things go again i intend to use code 55 track with the boards to be 13ft long 2ft wide in the centre the ends out to 2ft6'' -3ft to allow a turnaround for the locos.

Just need to clear the boards of the track underlay from the HO & i can make a start.

It's up on e-bay if you would like to see pics. Aside from heavy oxidation on the brass, it is in excellent condition with 23 inches of pad left. If you've thought about buying one of these, get one, they work awesome. I am unloading my HO goods and have already ordered an n scale one.

A friend has a question about these locos could anyone give us information about them ?

I have been checking brands on the web and found out Blueline series of Broadway ltd and if I am not mistaken these are the guys who produced the highly acclaimed Big Boy which is now unfortunately sold out and in a way discontinued.

However, I am a bit confused. They have two brands; one is the Blueline series and the other called Paragon.
The Mikados come ,as they say, with DC sound and DCC ready. Now, how can one play the sound on DC?? that I could not understand.Here is the link:

Does anybody have had any experience with these Blueline loco's? They say the loco's come with factory installed sound system for DC operation ( which I still do not understand) and DCC ready. So lets say if I tuck in a Esu Lokpilot decoder in I will have it run on DCC, then what about the sounds? How do I control them?! ....and how can one control the sounds on DC?

Believe it or not, in the old times, in Soviet Russia, trains ran on square wheels.

How do I know?

Picked up half a dozen of old (20+ years) N gauge Soviet coaches by PIKO (that German company which originally started out as the main supplier of trains in Eastern Europe)

Well, the first thing to do is a test lap on the layout....four out of six cars just failed to run on regular 9mm track. Wheels were out of gauge and on some wheels, still had bits of sprue on them. Making them effectively rather UNROUND. As I bought them as used, I really wonder whether the previous owner had had any success in running them.

Though I'd love to, I can't take a picture of them to illustrate the UNROUNDness as the camera has trouble with capturing such detail. Maybe later.

They are quite nice, though, especially given their origin, and probably a new set of wheels will make them run again without trouble. And someday when I have the courage I'll repaint them to look like this http://www.rvm-electro.ru/urengoi6.JPG

Saturday:
Sarnia 07:10 a.m. C&O local 4 leaves with 69 cars, 63 to be interchanged with the CPR at Chatham. Many of the cars are tank cars containing caustic soda, propane, styrene, toluene and chlorine.
The cars are left at Chatham yard at 3:55 p.m.
Windsor 12:45 p.m.. CP train 84 leaves Walkerville yard. The motive power is GO Transit, leased for the weekend. They pick up the C&O cars at Chatham and leave at 6:00 p.m. Train 84 has 102 cars.
At London, train 84 becomes train 54 and receives a new crew. 4 more cars are picked up. At Woodstock, 5 cars are set out and 5 are picked up. The train is now 6,627 feet long and weighs 9,050 tons.
At 11:15 p.m. train 54 passes Guelph Junction, milepost 39.02. This is at the top of the Niagara escarpment and the beginning of a long, steep downgrade. A couple in a car see smoke coming from the train, possibly from a journal box. At this point the train is 39 miles from Toronto. 15 miles farther, at the bottom of the grade, a couple see fire 2 to 4 feet in diameter coming from the wheel. Several more people see flames or sparks.
Around milepost 17.98, the end of the journal of the rear axle of the 33rd car of the train falls to the roadbed. It is red hot. The rest of the axle and the two wheels are found, glowing red, in a backyard.
Another mile and the tank car is tilted about 15 degrees. Sparks are shooting from where the truck is scraping along the ballast. The front wheels of the rear truck have derailed at mp 16.82.
At Mavis road, mp 16.56, the truck meets a trailing switch and is torn from the car. The tanker stops; the following cars turns sideways, and 24 cars are spilled over the level crossing in a space of just over 400 feet. It is a few minutes short of midnight.
Nine of the cars contain propane; one contains chlorine; there are 3 cars of styrene, 3 of toluene, 4 of caustic soda and some boxcars. All the cars originated on train 4 in Sarnia.

Some of you have been asking for a color combination that is easier on your eyes. A few people mentioned early on that they have trouble with the white on blue, so after a long wait, we've made a few changes.

For one, we've added several new choices for color schemes. We still have to old standby blue background for those of you that are filled with nostalgia and don't have problems reading the white on blue. For those of you that prefer black text on a light background, we've added three more choices.

1. Go to your "User Control Panel" (upper left)
   
2. Click on the "Board Preferences" tab at the top
   
3. Select one of the four choices as "My board style"
   
4. Click on "submit" and check out your selection.
   
5. Some have the posting info on the left, some have it on the right. Two are full-screen while the other two have borders on the left and right. Make the choice you like best, you can always change if you don't like it.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY 1 KILLED 1 INJURED Jumping out of the way of a CSX train on a tresele. It doesnt say if the one kid died jumping or was hit, either way its over a 100 ft drop in the middle.
They aint ever gonna learn!
