I've never gone to this show before but I'll give it a try.

I’ve just started modelling an actual, historic location on my small British 00 (similar to HO) layout. This is the first time that I’ve actually tried to model a specific location — usually, I’ve just winged it, ending up creating a fictional site.

I’ve been generally trying to model the famous Somerset & Dorset line in SW England. One reason: this line saw a wide variety of locos and rolling stock running through it so it allows you to use many different types of locos. It’s also a very scenic part of England and this railway (at least in Britain) is quite legendary.

I’ve chosen to model Wellow Station in Somerset (near Bath). I’m enjoying this and am preoccupied with finding historic pics from the 1950s and 1960s, trying to find images to base my layout on.

In many ways, modelling a real location simplifies things — you just try to copy the original site. All of the details (i.e. Where the station building, interlocking tower, signals, etc. are located) are already decided for you. When I’ve modelled fictional locations, I’ve spent some time puzzling over where to place the various items on the layout & how to make them look, making them realistic and consistent for the time period and location.

Just wondering if most other folks try to model actual locations, or are ficitional or “semi-fictional” locations just as popular? As mentioned, this is turning out to be more fun & easier than I expected.

Ending up not going the N scale route, even though we bought a lot for it. I will have a list up later of everything and pictures.

I am probably set on $200 for everything, think it should be a good deal

I was messing around with a new locomotive and disonnected a wire from its solder joint at the very top of the motor. So i soldered it back on to the tab it was connected to. (this is a life like gp38-2) Anyway, by doing so I pulled the wire out from where ever it was connected origionally on the decoder. the decoder has eight points at which wires are connected. and I know this belongs on the side labled 1-4 on the decoder/circut board itself.Can anybody telll me where it should be going number wise? I have no sort of diagram to go off off.

I bought a new to me GP38-2 at a train show a while back, its a proto 2000 from lifelike and is in REALLY really nice shape. It came pre equiped with a DCC decoder and Ive ran it on a few pieces of small track fine here and there, but today I set up some old Bachman EZ snap track just to run some trains on till I get more code 83 switches that I ordered. Anyway, when i get it to run fairly fast, it makes a screaching kinda noise, I dont know if its a new issue or just that I havent had it running this fast yet. I doesnt run the fastest anyway, so I know its not like Im just trying to get too much speed out of it. There dont seem to be any other issues with it though and i wonder if a simlpe oiling would help. Ive always brought my locos in to a really cool guy at the LHS for repairs. Heres a pic of it with the shell off, could somebody point out a spot to try puttin a drop or two of oil on? thanks.
