  Brick Factory, brick making
Posted by: railandsail - 01-13-2020, 09:00 AM - Forum: Industries Along The Rails - Replies (7)

A number of years ago I saw this image in an older magazine, and it so inspired me that I knew I had to make all efforts to include something like this on my new layout
[Image: Lowell-Brick-Co-ps800.jpg]

This was my initial efforts to put that scene on my plan.

I am currently having to re-plan this scene due to a number of problems that have popped up.

What I need help with is identifying the major raw materials needed for brick making, and the stowage (tanks) I should try to provide space for as I try to rearrange things??

"Whispering Falls" by Rail Scale Miniatures
Posted by: Ensign - 01-01-2020, 01:58 PM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (34)

Happy New year! To everyone out there.
I thought that I'd share some photos of this "Rail Scale Miniatures" kit called "Whispering Falls"
I renamed my build of this kit "Fesmire Farms" in honour of the late Chester Fesmire.
Chester was a master 1/87th scale vehicle/truck builder.
So here are some pics I hope you will enjoy them!

  Big Race
Posted by: ezdays - 12-29-2019, 12:12 PM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (5)

Saw a locomotive race on TV. Both engines were steam. One was from the Sudden-Pacific (a 6-2-0) driven by Bluto, the other was from the Onion-Pacific (a 4-2-0), driven by our hero, Popeye. The winner of the race got a kiss from Olive Oil as well as the state franchise (whatever that means).... It was a harrowing race, at one point, Bluto punched a hole in Popeye's boiler. Popeye was smart enough to take a tea kettle, heat it with a lump of coal and connect it to the hole, thereby building the steam back up before patching the hole. A clever maneuver, but not good enough. Bluto forced Popeye's engine to a sidetrack and get wrecked. That didn't deter Popeye, with the aid of a can of spinach, he rebuilt the engine, streamlined it and added rocket power to pull ahead and win the prize of his life, a smooch from the love of his life... Oh, and the state franchise (whatever that means). Applause

Believe me, that had more reality to it and was more satisfying than watching the news... Icon_rolleyes

  Walthers Sw1
Posted by: jglfan - 12-26-2019, 09:03 AM - Forum: HO Modeling - Replies (17)

Hi all, I have the original Walthers SW1 with just one truck powered and One truck for power pickup.  I had custom painted it for NYC and never run it as it doesn't run well.  I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the newer version (made in 2014) which has all wheel drive and power pickup, has the same shell so I could buy one and swap shells.  Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks, Gary

  Whatever happened to challenges...
Posted by: mountaingoatgreg - 12-17-2019, 12:11 AM - Forum: Contests & Challenges - Replies (3)

It seems like the Contests and Challenges use to be a big part of many of these online forums. I know a bunch of people have migrated to Facebook, but very few, if any, ever have challenges with any parameters. Maybe those who participated have all moved away from forums or are just no longer in the hobby. For me, I know something that challenges me, and also a deadline gets me working on things.

Would anyone be up for bringing back the old Challenge tradition?
