  New material for trees
Posted by: MasonJar - 03-28-2016, 04:19 PM - Forum: Scenery details - Replies (1)

So maybe it's just new to me, but this Lentil Leaf flock looks quite good. I haven't seen it before.

This tree is made with a twisted wire armature with lightweight sparkle on the trunk, poly fibre with find ground foam, and then the leaf flock over the top. Fixed with diluted white glue and cheap-o hairspray.

QSI Sound decoders in Atlas engines
Posted by: faraway - 03-28-2016, 10:44 AM - Forum: DCC - Replies (3)

My Atlas engines with QSI sound decoders arrived with a small booklet explaining how to program. There are long section about sound programming for DC only as well as DCC operation. Both booklets I have do not mention how to program the basics of DCC motor control and I assumed there are no CVs t be programmed for motor control. The engines had an awful jump start and a lightning top speed. I considered QSI decoders as barely useable and replaced them with other (none) sound DCC decoders.

This an example of Atlas documentation for those decoders
http://www.atlasrr.com/DCC/User%20Manual...0Titan.pdf

I stumbled last night over this very similar document
http://www.atlasrr.com/DCC/Revised%20%20...Manual.pdf

All of a sudden is there an appendix 2 (page 50) listing all the usual CV I am used to. Indeed the QSI decoders has most (my old version has no CV6) needed to setup a smooth and slow running switcher (MP15DC in my case). e.g. CV 2-5 set to 1,5,5,80 results makes an outstanding switcher on a small ISL Big Grin

I post this just in case you are irritated like me by the little printed booklets shipped with the model not mentioning any CVs to control the motor.

My darling got it's voice back

  Colorado's Bad Bargain With AMTRAK
Posted by: MountainMan - 03-27-2016, 11:07 AM - Forum: Upper Berth - Replies (6)

Well, it's official...for a eye popping price of hundreds of millions of dollars in right-of-way upgrades at our expense, AMTRAK has agreed to keep traveling through the State of Colorado without stopping at a single major city on its way from Southern Californian to Chicago. Yes, you read this correctly. AMTRAK will make its one and only stop as before, in the small community of La Junta in the far south, and then pass right through Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Denver without stopping on its was to Chicago.

How many people might board at or get off at La Junta? Barely a handful, if AMTRAK is lucky.

Looking to buy 3-6 Athearn three bay woodchip hoppers that were released 3-4 years ago. Looking for either Boston & Maine or BAR. New or used would be fine as long as they are intact. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH76482">http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default ... Three generations Of CNJ Freight power meet in Allentown PA. This pic was common as for about six years all three classes ran side by side and sometimes as helpers on the same train.
