Hi,

I'm actually looking for an old MDC/Roundhouse diesel boxxcab locomotives. To be precise, I'm looking for one which has doors on each ends.

This is for a kitbashing project and I'll remotor completely the locomotive.To be honest, a junker, a kit with missing parts or whatever, as long the boxcab shell is there would be good enough for this project.

Also, I know the 3-n-1 Battle Mountain Galloping Goose kit had the right shell with end doors. That could be an alternative.

Thought I'd open this discussion to celebrate each of "our" beginnings in the hobby of model building.
If you have photos of your first attempts in model railroading, or , modelbuilding in general, here is a place to share them.

I'll start this with this coal facility. I still have this model.....only slightly damaged after all the moves it has survived.
In Lindenhurst, L.I. , N.Y. , back a "few" ( :oops: OK in the mid fifties ) years ago, there was a facility where trucks could pick up coal, for home delivery. ( yeah, there were homes heated by coal fired furnaces, that required home delivery of 'fuel' )
Coal hoppers were emptied into a concrete pit, at the base of a chain/trough conveyor, which would lift the coal to the top of the bin, dump each trough, and cycle back down for the next 'load'.
That structure was one of the first models I scratch-built for a 4' X 6' HO scale "layout". At the time, I was using sheet Balsa as a building material. The building was a several story tall Coal Bin, with two drive through areas for the delivery trucks to 'load up', in.
       

Railroad Presentation

I will give a Power Point presentation on the Railroads of Madison County Indiana on Sunday July 19 at 2 PM at the History Center at 11 W 11th Street in Anderson Indiana (that's downtown). The presentation will cover the railroads that ran through the county (not the electric lines) and not just scenes in the county. We will cover NYC, PRR, CI, NKP, PC, Conrail and the CSX and NS with emphasis on the older rail lines.

Afterward, the train rooms will be open for anyone who wishes to stay and look over the model railroads we have built and the railroad information that we have accumulated. There is no charge for entrance to the History Center and parking is available on the street and in the parking lot across the street.

The History Center is funded by individual donations and membership and receives no other funding.

Madness! Some people think summer isn't a modelling season but I'm not following this mindset!

I recently decided to improve and weather a few cars. If you want more info about the WIP, just follow the blog links (more pictures too).

The first one was to see if I could improve an IHC double door 50ft boxcar... Answer? NO!!! There's a limit to what you can do with a real bad model. But at least, it was an occasion to practice weathering!

The next ones were a set of kitbashed Roundhouse 40ft boxcar into woodchip service. I've built 9 cars. Those are the 3 last I weathered:





Then I tried to improve a toyish Roundhouse boxcar into something more realistic. It's crazy how a paint job can bring a car to life.

As if it was not enough, I decided to update an old Intermountain CN boxcar I painted and lettered. My goal was to represent a very decrepit car still in revenue service circa 1985.

And the last one was about using an extra True Line reefer shell painted the wrong color to make a believeable car. I had to make a new underframe and details for it.

All in all, it was really fun to build, bash and weathered these cars over the last two weeks. I still have other projects, including kitbashing a Train Miniature OSB boxcar into a CN MoW storage car. For this one, I followed Doctorwayne's excellent tutorial.

Hi folks, I'm actually working on a project of building a few CN insulated boxcar. Finding appropriate decals is making me nut. Just to be clear, I'm modelling post-1960 50ft boxcar in CN wet noodle. The only problem is only CDS made dry transfer with the correct "insulated car" lettering. Unfortunately, I couldn't locate any shop in Canada and USA that have them in stock. Seems they don't exist as decal too (which I'd like to be proven wrong).

Yeah, talk about being confused. Last fall, we decided to move and so I dismantled my train room, turned it into a bedroom, and took my layout to the landfill. My workbench also followed. About two months later, we decided it wasn't the right time to sell, plus we had no idea where we were going to move to, so I took the bed frame I built and turned it into a base from my new layout. I also built a new workbench. All was well, but I was a bit hesitant to start on a new layout, and with good reason. Yup, we decided this was the right time to move.... We found a new place about seven miles north of where we now live, and we signed the contract yesterday. It'll take about five months to build the house, so we have some time yet, but I guess I'll be taking down my layout base and converting it back into a bed frame. I'm not sure where things will go after that, I will have room for a small layout, or I might just choose to do dioramas for a while, but I am itching to build something. But anyway, here's a few shots of what I've put together and have to take down once again....
