I've been following the building of this amazing layout for several years. This week the layout builder posted a couple of cabride videos, showing some wonderful views of the layout, and I just wanted to post them here for everone to enjoy :

There are more videos and plenty of pics on his Facebook page, I think I can safely say that this guy is among the best in Norwegian model railroading.

Has anybody on here done any casting of their own parts? It's been something that's always been of interest to me, and I was looking at casting kits in a recent catalog I got in the mail. And now I've possibly found a reason. I ordered a walthers ore dock kit off ebay that was still in the plastic, however many parts seem to have became de-sprued and many smaller parts broke. Was thinking I could make molds of the good parts and remake some of the broken ones. Any advice on trying something like this?

So, once you have removed the wheels from an axle and swapped out and replace the gear. Aligned the gear so it is perpendicular with the shaft(I have the aligner tool from NWSL). How do you replace the wheels so they are also perpendicular with the shaft? I do have a press, but what assures that there is no wobble when the wheel is put back on?

I want to add details west knuckle coupler and bracket casting to a couple engines I'll be working on. It says to drill a .031" hole, what size drill bit is that?

This precooler model was scratch-built by Dave Dunaway of Las Vegas, NV. Dave is a past recipient of an NMRA Achievement Program’s Golden Spike Award. Here is a link to photos of Dave’s layout. The precooler is Photo #3:

The precooler model in total is 81 inches long and 31 inches wide at the precooler machinery room section. The four-track shed section is 71 inches long and 14 inches wide, or a scale 515 feet by 102 feet. There is capacity for forty-eight HO scale refrigerator cars.

While the precooler model has signage that indicates is a Santa Fe precooler, it does not resemble the railroad’s San Bernardino precooler.

I was planning to install this model on a future second level of my layout. However, the most recent plan for the second level will not allow use of the precooler.

Model Railroads of Southern California’s forty-third layout tour takes place on Saturday, February 21, in Southern California.

This will be a free, self-guided tour of thirteen home and club layouts (ten locations) in an area spanning Simi Valley to Ventura. Most of the layouts are just a few miles off the State Route 118 freeway/highway. A list of the layouts appears below.

Several layouts are appearing for the first time on our tour program: Fred Stapp’s Graeagle & Deep Creek (HO) and Tuolumne River Lumber Company (HOn3), Daryl Smith’s railroads in O, N and HO scale, and Jeff Whitehorn’s Converse Creek Railroad in On30. Some of you may remember Jeff’s N scale California Surfline from Layout Tour #30 when Jeff lived in Irvine.

One of the drawbacks of using fluorescent lighting for your layout is the loss of detail in photos taken of it. A good example of that is seen on my wood-sided express cars, built from Athearn heavyweight passenger cars.

Hey guys, I could use some help here in the wiring field. I'm looking at using 10AWG for the bus line, with 24AWG for feeder lines, but here's the question I've got a hand. How far apart should I space the feeder wires on my helix? I've heard that at every second set of rail joiners is best, 3 feet intervals is best, 6 feet is O.K. So I'm confused. What has worked best for you? I'm trying to wire up a helix that has both 28" and 26" diameters, with a 4" clearance between decks (total height of the helix is 11") Please help, I'm sooo frusterated looking for an answer.
