When I was a kid, I was lucky enough to have spent countless hours riding in the cabs of steam, diesel and electric locomotives as I had relatives working on both the Milwaukee Road and the Northern Pacific. I recently came across some old pictures of the roundhouse in Deer Lodge, MT. In the first picture I can actually make out my uncles house in the upper left of the photo. I came across these old pictures by accident while searching for something else. Looking at the top picture I am guessing that this was taken just befor the Milwaukee de-electrified as there was no date information with the picture.







Now of course, the Milwaukee Road is long gone, but Deer Lodge still remembers them very well, and little joe E-70 and E-7 # 36 are proudly on display on the main street coming into town along with a caboose.

Ok,, while at Railfest in Scranton PA last weekend. I noticed this yellow bracket attached to the truck of an NS SD-35, and was wondering what it was. It's only on one side of one truck on the unit. I have never noticed this before on any other unit,,,Any Ideas????

   

   

Having finally got to the point where we are starting to settle in our new home I can now start thinking about a new layout!

I have some good space to play with (by UK standards), 13 feet by 7 feet in a L shape.

The hobby room is shared space with my better half so I can not use the whole room...

Here is one context of what I am looking to achieve:

Period - contempory
North East US
Rural
Must include pulpwood loading (I have a 'thing' for the logging industry)
Shortline railroad - happy to free lance an imaginary line
Open feel, I don't want lots of track

Here is my first attempt:



The top right spur is for pulpwood loading
The left spur is a team track
The short spur is a single stall engine house
The loops are meant to be the yard the short line uses to sort their trains for other customers further down the line
The lower section will act as the staging / fiddle yard but will be fully detailed

It is only a first attempt.

There will be several Model Railroad displays at the event, Lake County Society of Modular Engineers will be one of them.

Where ? We will be ( where do you think they'd put us "Old Goats" ? YUP in the goat barn.) :o

I'll have the "Seaport Village and Museum" modules there, hope to see some of you, who live close enough by to make the trip, there also.

The Second Annual Banning TrainFest takes place October 11th and 12th in Banning. Hours are 10:00 to 5:00 Saturday and 10:00 to 4:00 Sunday. The $5.00 admission includes all venues. Children 12 and under are FREE! The admission is good for both days and parking is free.

Festival activities will include over 11,000 square feet of operating modular railroads, a railroad swap meet, hobby clinics, a model contest with displays, and railroad vendor booths. In addition, the Cajon Division/PSR/NMRA will hold a train meet as part of the TrainFest at no additional charge. Train meet activities are open to non-members.

The bulk of these activities will take place at the Banning Community Center, 789 N. San Gorgonio Avenue. This is six blocks north of the downtown and Interstate 10. This is the venue for the exhibitors and vendors, model clinics and some of the modular railroads.

The swap meet runs from 8:00 to 2:00 (Saturday only) adjacent to the Banning School Gym, approximately 560 N. San Gorgonio Avenue. This is one block down the street from the Community Center and is the site of additional modular layout displays.

Hi group.
Can anyone tell me if there is any train action left near these areas? I am planning a trip, with a couple days in the Hamilton area then heading North to the Mississippi Lake for a week of fishing, and I was hoping there was still some rail activity in the area that I could take a day to photograph.
I have read there is no longer any rail service to Carleton Place, so any help and current advise will be appreciated.
