Hi there,
I´m building a part of the British Columbia Railway in H0-Scale. It´s the Dawson Creek Subdivision from Chetwynd,BC to Dawson Creek,BC.It´s a two deck shelf layout around the walls in the basement of our house.Time period are the early 70´s around the namechange from Pacific Great Eastern to British Columbia Railway.Most of the livery is two tone green with the white stripe...I want to paint one RS-3 to the old Yellow PGE livery with a heavy weathering...I also own three Dash-8´s in their later only blue livery with white lettering and also on SD-40 in their blue,red and white livery with BC-Rail lettering.There´s also some CN motive power and some RDC´s.Those have to be repainted and detailed.
Some of the structures will be scratchbuild or kitbashed,tracks are most Peco code 83 with some Atlas track. DCC with Digitrax.Benchwork is finished,most trackwork is complete and track is wired all the way up to Dawson Creek.I changed some parts of the layout because I wasn´t happy with the look of it and also made an extension to Dawson Creek Interchange...with some more Industries to switch..Also this will give me the possibility to use a NAR GP-9 for switching that area.You will see the progress pictures on my google album https://plus.google.com/photos/100139588...033/albums.
I´m currently working on the Dawson Creek area with the row of elevators I found on some older pictures.Those elevators will be mostly scratchbuild from scale lumber or evergreen siding.The red Walthers elevators will be placeholders for the final elevators.



The WC switcher will be eventually repainted.The next pictures are showing some of the industries in Dawson Creek along the mainline to Alberta...



There is a lot of work to do before I could start on the scenery...have to install the backdrop,valance and fascia and the rest of the lights...I use LED strips...

So this is a first view on what I´m working on.I´ll post a short tour around my layout if there is some interest on that...

I have a brass OMI Milwaukee Road S-3 Northern that I had upgraded with DCC. While the original box is okay (and I will be keeping it for value's sake) I would like to have a case/box/container to keep it in since the tender is now hardwired to the locomotive. It would also be nice to have some way to have the case integrate into existing track work (just like a cassette). Has anyone built their own case? It doesn't have to have windows to display it, I'd just like to keep it safe while it's off of the layout since it is my largest locomotive.

Hello, nice to meet you all here.
My name is Mike and I am here to learn and to show off what I have done in various scales of modeling.
My family has been building O scale structures for close to 20 years, we sell mostly on Ebay these days but we used to attend the York show before it got crammed into one or two halls.
I myself build in HO, although I do not have a functioning layout yet, sorta like the shoemaker who has no shoes. My user name is the reporting mark of my railroad, the Lehigh and Great Lakes, and the number of my first decent kit bash locomotive, a 2-6-6-0.
As I said before, I would love to learn more advanced methods of building in various scales. Even though I haven't been as active lately on working on my projects, I do intend to get back to work on them soon. Currently, I am in college for CADD, computer aided drafting and design, and whatever I learn there I hope I can apply to the family business.
I have many HO projects on the go, all of them revolving around motive power, might even be possible I have too many projects on the go.

Seems that Carstens Publishing has permanently closed its doors today.

I shall miss Railfan since I been faithfully reading it since the first issue in '74 and I feel like I lost a old friend.

I never cared much for RMC.

just to say hi to the forum , don't worry about the name its not the real thing , I model 00 British and N American outline , the N layout is getting re-built and using Kato track for the main line and Peco flexi for the mountain area with tight curves down to 12 inch ,

I got a Bochmann GP7 with "Value Sound". I understood that is technically a Tsunami sound decoder with some intentional limitations. I did also read about the unusual DCC programming requirements of Tsunami sound decoders.
To my surprise can my Uhlenbrock Intellibox II read and write all CVs on the programming track.
That might be of interest for the very few Germans/Europeans using an Intellibox with US Tsunami sound decoders

I have to add a nasty remark. It looks like changing CV1 might have some random side effects on other CVs. e.g. setting CV1 = 1 clears the low order bit of CV 29 (direction).

Do you guys glue the roofs on after the interior is detailed? Some manufacturers' cars the floor is easily removable (such as Athearn) but other manufacturers the floor is molded with the sides and the roof detaches. But, sometimes it's hard to add interior detail with a removable floor, and sometimes it's hard to make an easy way for the roof to detach without having a seam or screw noticeable. I've got a car I am working on and was planning on making the floor detach, but now I am thinking of adding some interior details and that would complicate things with the removable floor. My new thought is why do I need to ever access the interior of the car once everything is completed? Why not just glue everything shut?
