about 50 or 60 % of the pics on the gauge come up as red x'es on my puter even the ones i post i cant see .

My son & I went to the Toronto Christmas Show again this year & had a great time. We were a little pressed for time so we only had 2 to 2.5 hours. We had to skip some layouts/areas altogether and just focus on what we were interested in -- British layouts & dealers for me and 0 scale and Lego trains for my son!

I also enjoyed the booths for the full-scale trains, the live steam models and various workshops.

Just wondering if any other members were also able to attend & what their thoughts were?

I have a Brass locomotive that previously ran fine, and at home, it also runs fine. However, the last time i brought it to the club, it would run erratically. While it would run at whatever speed it was on the throttle, It would suddenly stop. strangely, if i lowered the throttle settings, (suppose it was on speed step 28), and then increased them, it would start up again. sometimes it would just dead stop.

this is odd, since it ran through this same area of track the very first time i test ran it under DCC, and it ran perfectly.

It is a six axle locomotive equipped with a TCS MC2 decoder. the locomotive looks like only 2 axles on each truck that picks up power, and they only pick up power on one side of the locomotive. However, it runs fine on my layout, and the club had just cleaned the tracks before i put my engine on the tracks (keep in mind that it ran on these same tracks fine when it was dirty). I scrubbed the wheels and got nothing, they looked shiny to start with.

the only thing is that some of my decoders have been behaving funny on the NCE system at the club (some won't even start), yet at home with my MRC Prodigy Express, they run fine, and without issue.

any possible explanations/fixes?

I have a previously flawless running locomotive until august when some weird inexplicable things happened to it. I put a new truck in, and mounted the motor more solidly, but now it literally shakes. It uses an Athearn drive and GE-C trucks with a new can motor. The whole body rumbles around, and it does not pick up power well, moving at varying speeds on straight and level track.

I don't know what happened to it. Everything in it is new, and even the wiring was re-done. I am told that the drive might be the cause but i cannot figure exactly what it is. When i run the engine without it's shell, i cannot see the issue, though it is possible one of the drive shafts are to loose or to tight, due to the nature of the locomotive.

How can i restore my engine to more stable running?

Today, I suddenly had an idea (it occasionally happens! ) ... I thought I'd consider building a rough layout for my youngest (6-year-old) son to use.

He often runs trains on my larger HO/00 layouts with me. He doesn't get too rough with them but then he has occasionally makes me nervous by how he handles them or runs them too fast, etc.

So I thought I'd build him a small switching layout -- he's already shown interest in shunting freight cars around on my larger layouts. My idea was to create a very small, basic shelf layout. Then I could give him 1-2 of my older, more basic locos and rolling stock (as well as his Thomas locos), and he and I could shunt some cars around on it. The plan was to create a layout/environment where it wouldn't matter if he got too rough, either with the layout or the locos.

Just curious -- has anyone else done this? We bought a very small plank -- only 9" wide by 3'10" long! -- to start experimenting with. Hmm, I'm even tempted to make it a little more serious and add some scenery & detail & have some fun myself!

Im trying to glue together wood strips as the frame of a structure, I bought little strips at the hobby shop of balsa. Im not sure what to use for glue. I got the Jes medium viscosity CA which says to hold parts together for 60 seconds, but no matter how long I hold them, the fall right off. So I went o another hobby shop and bought a tube of testors glue that says for wood models, This seems to at least hold the pieces together but its such a pain to work with its not even worthwhile to use and im just getting more mad from using it than anything else. Any suggestions?
