Just wondering....Anybody see or hear from Deano and Steve (Nazgul)....Long time no see....

Since it was raining and I couldn't work outside, I did a little boxcar project. Since I am going to model the late 1970s, I need to update my boxcar fleet. I didn't do much research, but have read various things about roofwalks being rmoved, ladders cut down, brake wheels lowered, doors being enlarged, side sills being reinforced...

BTW: CAUTION!!!

I decided to take this SP Accurail boxcar and model it with half ladders, a larger door, straight side sills, and an open door on one side. The model has 6 foot doors which are molded into the body. I had built the car a couple of years ago, and lightly weathered it.



First, I took some styrene strip and glued it in the grove of the floor. I didn't have the right thickness, so I glued two strips in to get it above the floor height.



While the glue was drying, I took the Dremel tool and cut the doors out.



I used the Exacto knife to clean up the door openings which were widened to about 7.5 HO scale feet.



Used the hobby knife to scrape the plastic strip down so that it was level with the floor.



With a straight edge, I scored some lines in the floor to represent the boards. Didn't measure, didn't worry about making them perfect...



Then I painted the floor light gray and the lead weights black.



While the floor was drying, I glued the new door on one side. These are doors from Accurail that were purchased online. They make a pretty good assortment of doors you can buy.

Looking for a less expensive, quieter compressor for your air brush? Tried commercial kitchen stores?

It seems that pastry decorators use a small, quiet, inexpensive compressor to power commercial icing decorators, instead of hand-squeezing all day long. They work well by all accounts.

Just thought I'd pass this along...

Beginning Nov 30th and running through the month of December, the Madison County Historical Society, Anderson IN, will hold a "What is Christmas without Trains" exhibit at their headquarters at 7 west 11th street in Anderson.

The exhibit will consist of a number of small layouts (N, HO, On30, 0 gauge and 0 scale traction), with displays of various model railroad equipment including S scale.

There are many, many photos of prototype railroad equipment adorning the walls to take you back in time to a different day. In addition, there will be videos playing for railroad topics and a train set will be given away to one of those who register by December 23rd.

All in all, it should be a great time.

Hours:
Monday - Wednesday and Friday from 11 AM to 5PM
Saturday December 5th, 12th & 19th from 10AM to 2PM
Closed December 25th & 26th for Christmas.

I got this idea while reading Gary S.'s new enterprise - building a layout from the ground up...

So...what's your idea of the "ultimate" train room..?? Here's mine...

It'd be about 25'/30' x 50'/60' , running the full length at the back of the house. It'd have a small partition to house the shop (fully equipped, of course, with an extractor as well), a john, a kitchenette (gotta keep the Cokes cool...), and a utility type sink. A "feet friendly" floor, rounded corners, the walls painted a skyish color, and a nice sound system - NO TV..!! And LOTTSA trains..!!!

Well, it looks like the Credit Valley Explorer Christmas train is totally sold out -- all trips are booked up! :cry:

But there are still several other options, although they're all trains we've been on. The Streetcar Museum (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.hcry.org">http://www.hcry.org</a><!-- m -->) is running Christmas trains for the first time in years. We usually go to the South Simcoe Railway but, unless it's steam powered, we're not too keen on it. Has anyone heard if they will have their steam engine running in time for the Christmas runs? I'm tired of asking them!

MTH makes a set of 120 figures (MTH 30-11043)that are Scale55. There are 10 poses. 10 each of the standing poses. The seated figures fit the Bachmann On30 seats perfectly. Available from $23-$30 The standing figure is 5'-6".

I'll take a break from being list curmudgeon to share a link for fans of Penn Central and other Eastern roads. This site has a number of scanned maps, timetables, track charts, and promotional materials. It does also have a limited number of resources for Canadian, Western, and Midwest railroads. I'm sure Brakie and Ralph will like it if they haven't already seen it.

I'm working from home today and my wife was watching CITY TV around 9 a.m. when she called out to me to come and watch.

A guy was on there promoting model railways -- I think he was either from the Credit Valley Railway Company in Mississauga or (at least) was promoting that hobby shop.

They were demonstrating (via 3 CN diesel models) the different scales of N, HO and O and also explaining how you can model scenery, buildings, even explaining how you can create buildings from kits and other sources.

They said that you can find more at this website -- <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.citytv.com/cityline/home-garden">http://www.citytv.com/cityline/home-garden</a><!-- m --> -- and that they would have details there regarding how to convert and existing table into a MRR table, or something like that. I can't find anything on this site yet but maybe they will update it later today.

Did anyone else in the Toronto area catch this or find anything on this website?
