Stumbled on this video by accident. It's from a clinic on using styrene plastic to build boilers from scratch. The author uses a similar method to what I use , except I normally use brass to do the same job. He does show a few useful tips and ideas here on working with styrene, it's worth a watch.

I decided to post 2 6x1 foot ISLs that I have been designing. I'm using Atlas Code 83 Snap Switches and Track. I got some inspiration from Jim Stanford's Dolton Industry Park http://www.jimsmodeltrains.ws/index.php and from Jack Trollope's Ness Street Yard http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.p...out/page-2:

   

   

The first plan would require the use of 2 switchers to shuffle the cars.

The second plan could accommodate 5 industries and could become the Port Able Railway. I used 2 Peco Double Slip turnouts to make this plan happen

I took this series of pics to display some new equipment painted up in the home road colors and decaled with some custom decals done by the Shawmut Car Shops. Tomustang had a big part in this, as he provided the layout and artwork for the decals.

Looks like I got here just in time to catch the tail end of a CNJ coal train heading east with an 80 car train of black diamonds on the SH&D main. Off in the background the LNE switches the Hercules cement plant, and the Anna sets out a cut of empties on a spur in Bath. First the hack is cut off and the train is pulled past the switch.    

As they back up the first car up is an all metal gon done for the PB&NE ( the private switching road at the Bethlehem steel plant). This is not based on any prototype I had the decals and the car and thought they looked good together. I don't know the manufacture of this car, any help with that would be nice.    


Next in is a set of 50 ton hoppers. The LS&W car in the background is also the work of Tomustang and Doctorwayne.    


After that we have three cement cars , one in ARR reporting marks.

The latest in my series of shorter vids. It highlights the use of my newly installed signals in train operations.

I just got an email alert from Jason Shron of Rapido Trains, saying that they are branching into steam, specifically Canadian steam. They plan to release 2 per year, beginning with the Royal Hudson in 2017, Canada's 150th birthday. I am so excited by this news, because Rapido's quality and fidelity to prototype is second to none.

Here's an excerpt from the email, followed by a link to the release schedule.

Those of you who know me are probably wondering: "Steam? Jason wants to bring out steam?" If you don't know me, I model 1980 and have been known to refer to steam engines (in jest) as ugly, black, smelly things.

The fact of the matter is I had an epiphany at the Great Edmonton Train Show in September 2014. I met many of you there and was struck by your longstanding dedication to our hobby. Looking at the faces lined with decades of model railroad experience, I came to the realization that Rapido needs to bring out Canadian steam engines - and fast - so that the model railroaders who grew up with steam would be able to enjoy affordable, accurate Canadian steam locomotive models in their lifetimes. This is also an opportunity to introduce Canadian steam to a new generation of younger modellers.

After the first day of the show Bill and I sat down for a drink (Lagavulin, if you will ask). And I said, "We need to do Canadian steam." Delighted that he had finally got through to me, Bill asked, "Which engine?" My response: "All of them."

Does anyone happen to have one of Rail Yard Models’ G47 gondola or 122F coil car kits that they would be willing to part with? These can be in built or unbuilt form, though I would prefer unbuilt. Since RYM has gone off the market these kits have become very hard to find, and there is almost no other starting place for modelers of Conrail coil steel trains (almost entirely made up of ex-PRR G43 and G47 gondolas). Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a small N scale layout that is about 28" x 58". I'm looking to expand it by glueing on some narrow long bits of foam, ie approx 2x2" or so. (I'd like to make it about 2" longer and wider all around.)

To avoid having to buy another foam board and cutting it up, does anyone know where I could find smaller pieces of foam -- maybe I should ask at a big box store if they have any scraps or maybe there's a place where you can buy these?

This would be easier and neater than cutting up a new foam board
